About

E. Randolph Richards Ph.D.

Randy is the Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He has been teaching since 1986, originally at a state university and then abroad at an Indonesian seminary.  Upon returning to the States, he served at two Christian universities before joining Palm Beach Atlantic University as the dean of the School of Ministry in 2006. In addition to mentoring students in advanced Greek and Greek manuscript studies, he loves training students for ministry, both domestically and internationally.  His wife Stacia has joyfully accompanied him from jungles of Indonesia to rice fields in Arkansas to beautiful South Florida.  They have two fine sons: Josh (Ph.D. 2012, University of St. Andrews, Scotland), a university professor in English, and Jacob (Ph.D. 2014, College of Medicine, University of Florida), a pharmaceuticals regulator.

Randy has authored or co-authored nearly a dozen books and dozens of scholarly articles. His newest book is “Misreading Scripture with Individualist Eyes: Patronage, Honor and Shame in the Biblical World,” co-written with Richard James, which follows a similar book, “Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes: Removing Cultural Blinders to Better Understand the Bible,” which is approaching 75,000 English copies sold, and has been translated into four other languages. His newest article, “Did Ancients Know the Testaments were Pseudepigraphic? Implications for 2 Peter,” co-written with a grad student, appears in the Bulletin for Biblical Research. He published an article “The Pool of Bethesda,” a cover story in the Summer 2020 issue of Lifeway’s “Biblical Illustrator.” He is currently writing an introduction to the New Testament, and is beginning a major 2-volume commentary on the Gospel of John in the Word Biblical Commentary series. Other recent books include Rediscovering Paul (2017), a popular college and seminary textbook on the Apostle Paul; A Little Book for New Bible Scholars (2017), an introduction to Biblical studies; Paul Behaving Badly (2016), a popular book on the beloved apostle; and Rediscovering Jesus (2015).

Randy is a popular lecturer, speaker and teacher, and has presented in places as diverse as Istanbul, Turkey; Kijabe, Kenya; Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, United Kingdom; Beirut, Lebanon and Kathmandu, Nepal.
